Ezekiel, in his theology, has undertaken a radical reappraisal of the entire nature of Israel’s covenant with God, and the way in which that covenant would achieve God’s purposes in the world as a whole. When the covenant had first been formed at Mount Sinai, it had been for the purpose of establishing Israel as a nation; the covenant was in effect Israel’s constitution, its Magna Carta.
